Our age-appropriate program helps children to develop intellectually, physically, emotionally, musically and socially to their fullest potential. We encourage both the teacher-directed as well as child-initiated activities to scaffold each child's learning. Each child will be allowed to progress at his or her own pace. We will also look into their stages of development to enhance and enrich their learning opportunity.

Our curriculum planning is based on the Multiple Intelligence (MI).
Conceived in 1983 by Dr Howard Gardner, professor of education at Harvard University, the Multiple Intelligences are eight different ways to demonstrate intellectual ability. It suggests that the traditional notionof intelligence, based on I.Q. testing, is far too limited. Instead, Dr. Gardner proposes eight different intelligences to account for a broader range of human potential in children and adults.

At all our Sunflower Childcare and education centres, the fundamentals of multiple intelligences theory are taught to children in everyday classroom situations.

This way, children are empowered to make the most of their learning potential in school and in life. We will help all children to grasp the concept of "multiple intelligence" (MI) in a simple and down-to-earth form and that is to identify the 8 ways of being "smart". These 8 areas are:
• The MI philosophy will redesign the way children is educated
• Some intelligences are more developed than others, depending on background and age - Our curriculum will help you find out what your child's strengths are
• With this knowledge, we can work hand-in-hand to strengthen the other intelligences that your child does not use as often
• We encourage and develop each child's imaginative and creative expressions

Our curriculum provides hundreds of ways to develop all eight kinds of "smarts", and offers tips and resources for making the most of one's strongest intelligences and strengthening the others. Our children receive a complete, personalized education emphasizing traditional academic skills, with infusion of the cultural arts.
The following activities are an integral part of our program:

• Story Telling / Speech & Drama
• Music & Movement
• Art & Craft
• Dramatic Play / Sand Play / Dough Play / Block Play
• Manipulative Play / Role Play
• The Art of Language (our Chinese program adopts the latest technique developed by MOE, emphasizing on Word Recognition, Reading, Creative Writing and Phonics)
• Creative Approach for Arithmetic and Science through Circle Time as well as structured group and individual projects for our kindergarten students

Through the various types of play, we promote interaction and communication amongst children and their teachers.
Our specifically designed activity programs and curricula for each age group ensure that there is a balanced range of fun and educational elements suited to the development of each child.

Thus, it is not difficult to see that our entire program is geared towards promoting the development of the whole child in the following areas: PHYSICAL, INTELLECTUAL, LANGUAGE, EMOTIONAL and SOCIAL.
Besides the usual curriculum, the following activities are also conducted on a regular basis for your child's learning and enjoyment purposes. These are:

Fun with Cooking – In our quarterly cookery sessions, our children have the opportunity to experience hands-on basic cooking skills and learn about nutrition and the importance of a balanced diet. They also learn team spirit in a fun way as they "work" and learn in a team of 4 to 6.

Excursions – We visit places of interests as well as make field trips to enhance classroom experiences. Some places we have visited are farms, factories, museums, etc.

Workshops – Workshops are sometimes organized to introduce new ideas, skills or crafts to parents or students.
At Sunflower we recognize the importance of providing children with the best standards of age-appropriate education. Staff training and curriculum reviews are conducted regularly to ensure that we maintain a high standard. Continual monitoring and improving the curriculum ensures that we are offer an increasing range of activities and experiences, which enable us to meet the individual needs of each Sunflowerkid.
